I have been involved with the mobile electronics industry, specifically mobile audio, for close to 20 years. I am also a graduate of The RITOP School for Mobile Electronics in Watertown, Massachusetts where I obtained my MECP Certification. I have built some very high end audio systems and vehicles over the years but I had always wanted to build something just a little bit different than the norm...enter Project: Armoredhaulin'!

Project: Armoredhaulin' was a brain child of mine over 10 years ago. I wanted to build a vehicle that would be radically different than many of the usual types of vehicles that are used for show and competitions. It also needed to be able to realistically carry the excessive amount of weight that a competition sound system adds to a vehicle while also being able to withstand the high DB levels I anticipated the sound system to produce. I also wanted to incorporate the high quality installation techniques and cosmetics that are typically found in high end SQ vehicles but with the same excessive DB levels comparable to that of which are found in some of the worlds loudest SPL competition vehicles which are usually not very visually appealing.

Project: Armoredhaulin' is based off of a 1992 GMC Topkick 6500 Armored Truck platform. I acquired the truck in August of 2006 and immediately set my sights on building one of the biggest and baddest audio and video monsters, built with only the best products available. To me the obvious choice was Soundstream Technologies. I met with Grizz Archer at Spring Break Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL in March of 2008 where we discussed my plans for the project and was immediately presented with an offer to become a member of Team Soundstream. After many conversations, Grizz and I came up with a build plan and what we believe is going to be one of the most unique installation features ever executed and should definitely be the focal point of the entire project...the roof mounted subwoofers!

The audio system will have 16 Soundstream Tarantula TR series amps, over 20,000 RMS watts of power & a grand total of 144 Soundstream drivers! Nope, that's not a typo, 144 drivers! Let's break it down...32 sets of speakers, 2 speakers per set, 2 drivers per speaker & 16 15" subwoofers.

8 sets of Soundstream Tarantula SST4.0 component speakers, 2 sets above the windshield on the drivers side, 2 sets above the windshield on the passenger side reproducing their respective left and right audio signals & 4 sets above the windshield in the center reproducing their respective center channel audio signals.

Powered by: 2 Soundstream Tarantula TR880/2 amplifiers

2 sets per channel, crossovers wired in series/parallel @ 4ohms for 55 watts RMS per speaker.

8 sets of Soundstream Tarantula SST6.9 component speakers, 4 sets in the front drivers door and 4 sets in the front passengers door.

Powered by: 4 Soundstream Tarantula TR500/4 amplifiers

1 driver per channel, wired in stereo @ 4ohms for 125 watts RMS per speaker.

16 sets of Soundstream Tarantula SST5.2 component speakers, 8 sets in the rear drivers side door and 8 sets in the rear passengers side door.

Powered by: 2 Soundstream Tarantula TR880/2 amplifiers

4 sets per channel, crossovers wired in series/parallel @ 2ohms for 55 watts RMS per speaker.

16 Soundstream R1-15 subwoofers, there will be 4 sealed enclosures each containing 4 R1-15 subwoofers. These will be suspended from the roof of the truck using specially designed hanger plates & support tubes.

Powered by: 8 Soundstream Tarantula TR1600/2 amplifiers

1 driver per channel, coils wired in parallel @ 2ohms for 800 watts RMS per driver.

System power will be handled by 2 Soundstream SC-40CA capacitors and 8 Soundstream Powerplant 1's for all the distribution duties to the 16 amplifiers. These will receive power from the upgraded charging system which includes 10 Mechman Elite Electrical Systems 140 amp alternators and 10 SVR Battery 4000SP batteries. Everything will be connected with installation products from Tsunami/Metra Electronics including 1000 ft. of 1/0 awg power and ground cable.

The audio signals to the amplifiers will be nothing but high voltage with the help of a few products from Audiocontrol including 2 Matrix line drivers, 2 MVC master volume control units and a ESP-2 spatial restoration processor.

Video duties will be handled by Farenheit and Farenheit Elite products including 2 Farenheit Elite EXCI-23 23" Monitors.

Keeping the interior comfortable and quiet will be accomplished with 4,000 sq/ft. of sound control products from Fatmat Sound Control.

With a build of this size and complexity, the list could go on for days and with the build still ever evolving it is sure to get increasingly longer. All build information & pictures can be viewed at my Cardomain page...Enjoy!
